Witches’ Bottle

The bottle spell has been adjusted over the years to fit the distaste of modern witches (ironically, the very people the bottles were intended to protect against are the only ones continuing the tradition). Urine, arguably the most important element of such devices in the 16th and 17th centuries, has been replaced by the more hygienic red wine. In addition to (or sometimes in replacement of) sharp metal items, herbs have been added. However, in matters of personal protection, old tricks are the best tricks.

The following recipe is for a traditional bottle:

Ingredients:

1 small bottle, about the size of an oil bottle or medical ampule (preferably made from blue glass)

A few pinches of  coarse salt (such as sea or kosher salt)

3 pins or needles

3 rusty nails

Small pieces of broken mirror glass

A few strands of your hair

Some of your fingernail clippings

A few drops  of your urine (optional: include some of your semen or menstrual blood)

1 black 4″ Offertory candle

Carve your name and intentions into the sides of the candle and dress with an appropriate oil. Place all of the items, with the exception of the urine (which should be saved until just  before burial, due  to the smell) into the bottle and fit the black candle into the opening as a holder. Burn the candle down to the end while you pray for protection. Add the urine (and whatnot) and seal the bottle closed. Bury the bottle in a place where it will not be disturbed.

If you don’t have a space to bury it, bury it in a flower-pot or potted plant. Alternatively, if you wanted to strengthen the spell, you can plant some seeds along with the bottle (preferably of a plant that fits with your intentions – look up Cunningham’s Encyclopedia of Magical Herbs, or something similar, to find one). As the seeds grow, the spell becomes stronger.

Sorry I haven’t been posting lately, there’s been plenty to do with school coming to a close. The Increase The Peace Ritual was a success, and I hope we were able to make a difference. Only time will tell.

I’ve decided to put more effort into meditation. For a while, I”ve been doing it sporadically,  just before bed, using YouTube and a set of earphones, listening to guided meditations from Piers Cross and others in a laying down position. However, I want to try it on  a regular basis, preferrably in a place where I won’t be distracted. Home isn’t the ideal situation. A friend told me about a Buddhist group at the UU Church, who meet every Sunday at 7 PM for prayer and meditation, so I might look into that. In the meantime, I’m putting together ingredients for a witch’s bottle, and will have more on that for you later.
